“…this is an incredible piece about freedom, bodily autonomy, informed consent, and how women's rights are arduously fought for - for years, crafted by millions of small stitches and red sacrifices, yet they can be unraveled so quickly. The medium of crochet is so genius because it is so laborious and has been used for decades, adding to the timelessness and relevance of this conversation. I hope that the people who look at this and only see a comment on a list of side effects will look deeper and learn their history. Pregnancy and birth is hundreds of times more dangerous and uncomfortable than birth control. Activists fought and were imprisoned for sharing information about birth control, because of how much of a leap forward for women's rights it was. How many people have been stuck in oppressive situations because they were denied access to information about their biology and the right to control their own reproduction?

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this tapestry since I first saw it, and I hope it becomes a benchmark of this turbulent time, when human rights are under attack both directly and through misinformation campaigns, but we use our knowledge and collective power to regain them and solidify them. I want future generations to be able to read every single word about the science of their bodies and their right to protect them. I want them to feel those words, how real they are, in yarn on a 50 foot tapestry that swallows a room.”
